πΆπ‘ A DIY Program to Teach Your Puppy How to Live in a Human Household
(From Your Puppyβs Point of View ππΎ)
Hi new family! ππΆ
Itβs meβ¦ your fluffy little Home Sweet Home Doodles puppy πβ¨
I may be adorable (and yes, I know it π), but Iβm also brand new to your world.
Your house has:
πͺ doors
ποΈ couches
π½οΈ kitchens
π½ bathrooms
π shoes
π§Έ kids
π doorbells
π cars
πΊ TVs
π maybe other pets
This is a LOT for my little puppy brain.
The good news?
I can absolutely learn how to live beautifully in your home if you teach me in a way I understand πΎπ
Hereβs my DIY HSHD Puppy House Manners Program so we can learn together.
πΎ STEP 1: Give Me My Safe Place
Before I can learn your whole house, I need:
π‘ my own little safe zone
This helps me feel calm and secure.
Set up:
ποΈ crate
π§Έ one comfort toy
π§ water nearby
πΆ puppy bed
π§ playpen or gate
𦴠chew toy
This is my:
β¨ βpuppy apartmentβ
When I feel safe, I learn faster.
π‘ DIY tip:
Let me nap here, eat nearby, and spend quiet time here so I learn this is my calm place.
πͺ STEP 2: Teach Me Room by Room
Please donβt give me the whole house on day one π πΎ
Thatβs too much freedom.
Instead:
πͺ teach me one room at a time
Start with:
living room
kitchen
my crate zone
Once I learn:
where to potty
what not to chew
where to settle
how to walk calmly
then give me another room.
This keeps me from:
π stealing shoes
𧻠finding paper towels
πͺ chewing furniture
π© potty accidents
Small wins first π
π½ STEP 3: The Human House Potty Routine
I do NOT naturally know:
πͺ door = potty outside
You teach me with routine.
My schedule:
π immediately after waking
π½οΈ after eating
π§Έ after play
π΄ after naps
π before bed
Take me to the same potty spot every time.
Celebrate BIG when I go:
π βGood potty!!β
I learn through:
repetition
praise
timing
consistency
Thatβs how I become house-trained fast πΆβ¨
ποΈ STEP 4: Teach Me What Furniture Means
The couch looks like a giant puppy bed πποΈ
So if you donβt want me on furniture:
be consistent from day one
Donβt allow:
sometimes yes
sometimes no
That confuses me.
Instead teach:
πΆ βplaceβ
Use:
puppy bed
blanket
reward treats
praise
Now I learn:
π βmy spot is even betterβ
This is huge for family calmness.
π STEP 5: Stop Me From Chewing Human Stuff
I explore with my mouth.
That means:
π shoes
π± chargers
π§Έ kids toys
πͺ chair legs
all look amazing π
Donβt just say no.
Instead:
π redirect me immediately
Example:
shoe β β
chew toy β β
Praise when I choose the right item.
That teaches:
π βTHIS is what belongs to meβ
This is one of the fastest ways to build house manners.
π STEP 6: Teach Me Household Sounds
Your home makes weird noises π³πΎ
Things like:
π doorbells
πΊ TV
π§Ή vacuum
π³ pots
πͺ garage doors
πΆ kids yelling
Help me learn these are normal.
DIY sound confidence training:
start low volume
calm praise
reward calm behavior
never force me toward scary things
Soon:
πΆ your house feels normal and safe
This is HUGE for doodle confidence.
π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ STEP 7: Teach Me Human Family Rules
Every human in the house should use:
the same commands
Good family words:
sit
place
outside
crate
off
gentle
leave it
If everyone uses different words, I get confused π€―πΎ
Consistency helps me learn faster.
At HSHD we love when families involve:
π¦ kids
π© moms
π¨ dads
π΅ grandparents
because it helps me bond with the whole family π
π STEP 8: Teach Me How to Settle
I donβt automatically know how to βturn off.β
Thatβs why I need:
π§Έ enrichment
short play
training
potty
then calm crate time
This teaches:
π€ play hard, rest well
A settled puppy becomes:
calmer in the home
less destructive
easier with kids
better nighttime sleeper
Huge win πΆβ¨
π The HSHD Family Method

With patience, routine, and consistency, Iβll quickly learn:
where to sleep
where to potty
what to chew

how to love living with my forever family
And before longβ¦
Iβll feel like Iβve always belonged there ππΆβ¨
