🐢🏑 A DIY Program to Teach Your Puppy How to Live in a Human Household

(From Your Puppy’s Point of View πŸ’›πŸΎ)

Hi new family! πŸ‘‹πŸΆ

It’s me… your fluffy little Home Sweet Home Doodles puppy πŸ’›βœ¨

I may be adorable (and yes, I know it 😍), but I’m also brand new to your world.

Your house has:

  • πŸšͺ doors

  • πŸ›‹οΈ couches

  • 🍽️ kitchens

  • 🚽 bathrooms

  • πŸ‘Ÿ shoes

  • 🧸 kids

  • πŸ”” doorbells

  • πŸš— cars

  • πŸ“Ί TVs

  • πŸ• maybe other pets

This is a LOT for my little puppy brain.

The good news?
I can absolutely learn how to live beautifully in your home if you teach me in a way I understand πŸΎπŸ’›

Here’s my DIY HSHD Puppy House Manners Program so we can learn together.

🐾 STEP 1: Give Me My Safe Place

Before I can learn your whole house, I need:

🏑 my own little safe zone

This helps me feel calm and secure.

Set up:

  • πŸ›οΈ crate

  • 🧸 one comfort toy

  • πŸ’§ water nearby

  • 🐢 puppy bed

  • 🚧 playpen or gate

  • 🦴 chew toy

This is my:

✨ β€œpuppy apartment”

When I feel safe, I learn faster.

πŸ’‘ DIY tip:
Let me nap here, eat nearby, and spend quiet time here so I learn this is my calm place.

πŸšͺ STEP 2: Teach Me Room by Room

Please don’t give me the whole house on day one πŸ˜…πŸΎ

That’s too much freedom.

Instead:

πŸšͺ teach me one room at a time

Start with:

  • living room

  • kitchen

  • my crate zone

Once I learn:

  • where to potty

  • what not to chew

  • where to settle

  • how to walk calmly

then give me another room.

This keeps me from:

  • πŸ‘Ÿ stealing shoes

  • 🧻 finding paper towels

  • πŸͺ‘ chewing furniture

  • πŸ’© potty accidents

Small wins first πŸ’›

🚽 STEP 3: The Human House Potty Routine

I do NOT naturally know:

πŸšͺ door = potty outside

You teach me with routine.

My schedule:

  • πŸŒ… immediately after waking

  • 🍽️ after eating

  • 🧸 after play

  • 😴 after naps

  • πŸŒ™ before bed

Take me to the same potty spot every time.

Celebrate BIG when I go:

πŸŽ‰ β€œGood potty!!”

I learn through:

  • repetition

  • praise

  • timing

  • consistency

That’s how I become house-trained fast 🐢✨

πŸ›‹οΈ STEP 4: Teach Me What Furniture Means

The couch looks like a giant puppy bed πŸ˜πŸ›‹οΈ

So if you don’t want me on furniture:

be consistent from day one

Don’t allow:

  • sometimes yes

  • sometimes no

That confuses me.

Instead teach:

🐢 β€œplace”

Use:

  • puppy bed

  • blanket

  • reward treats

  • praise

Now I learn:

πŸ’› β€œmy spot is even better”

This is huge for family calmness.

πŸ‘Ÿ STEP 5: Stop Me From Chewing Human Stuff

I explore with my mouth.

That means:

  • πŸ‘Ÿ shoes

  • πŸ“± chargers

  • 🧸 kids toys

  • πŸͺ‘ chair legs
    all look amazing πŸ˜…

Don’t just say no.

Instead:

πŸ”„ redirect me immediately

Example:
shoe β†’ ❌
chew toy β†’ βœ…

Praise when I choose the right item.

That teaches:

πŸ’› β€œTHIS is what belongs to me”

This is one of the fastest ways to build house manners.

πŸ”” STEP 6: Teach Me Household Sounds

Your home makes weird noises 😳🐾

Things like:

  • πŸ”” doorbells

  • πŸ“Ί TV

  • 🧹 vacuum

  • 🍳 pots

  • πŸšͺ garage doors

  • πŸ‘Ά kids yelling

Help me learn these are normal.

DIY sound confidence training:

  • start low volume

  • calm praise

  • reward calm behavior

  • never force me toward scary things

Soon:

🐢 your house feels normal and safe

This is HUGE for doodle confidence.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ STEP 7: Teach Me Human Family Rules

Every human in the house should use:

the same commands

Good family words:

  • sit

  • place

  • outside

  • crate

  • off

  • gentle

  • leave it

If everyone uses different words, I get confused 🀯🐾

Consistency helps me learn faster.

At HSHD we love when families involve:

  • πŸ‘¦ kids

  • πŸ‘© moms

  • πŸ‘¨ dads

  • πŸ‘΅ grandparents

because it helps me bond with the whole family πŸ’›

πŸŒ™ STEP 8: Teach Me How to Settle

I don’t automatically know how to β€œturn off.”

That’s why I need:

  • 🧸 enrichment

  • short play

  • training

  • potty

  • then calm crate time

This teaches:

πŸ’€ play hard, rest well

A settled puppy becomes:

  • calmer in the home

  • less destructive

  • easier with kids

  • better nighttime sleeper

Huge win 🐢✨

πŸ’› The HSHD Family Method

At Home Sweet Home Doodles, we believe puppies thrive when they feel:

  • safe

  • structured

  • loved

  • included

  • guided

This DIY house-living program helps your puppy learn:

🏑 how to become a true member of your family

Remember:
I’m not trying to be β€œbad.”

I’m just learning your human world πŸΎπŸ’›

With patience, routine, and consistency, I’ll quickly learn:

where to sleep
where to potty
what to chew
how to relax
how to love living with my forever family

And before long…
I’ll feel like I’ve always belonged there πŸ’›πŸΆβœ¨
